International Membrane Biophysics Meeting "Membranes as Biological Barriers"

At the International Membrane Biophysics Meeting 2026, we plan to bring together around 120 young and established scientists from Europe and beyond. We are very excited to be joining forces with the Finnish membrane biophysics community for this event. We look forward to seeing you in Drübeck.

    Program

    The program will comprise 16 invited talks and about 22 contributed talks selected from the abstracts. All other participants will have the opportunity to present their work in poster sessions providing a great platform for traditionally very lively discussions.

    The scientific program will start on March 23, 2026 at 1 pm and end on March 26, 2026 at 1 pm.

    Because the number of participants is limited, early registration is highly recommended!

    Registration to the International Membrane Biophysics Meeting "Membranes as Biological Barriers" is possible exclusively by completing the online registration form. After completing the form you will receive an automatic registration confirmation acknowledging your submission. Participants will receive a final registration confirmation together with the invoice containing bank details in due time.

    Registration fee includes accommodation, breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee breaks and great scientific sessions from 23 to 26 March 2026.

    If you wish to stay an additional night, tick the corresponding box on the online registration form. Please note that additional nights must be paid for by the participants themselves at the conference site!

    Important: There is limited rooming. We ask early- and late-stage postdocs to consider registering for a double room. Single rooms will go on a first come first serve basis. For double rooms, please specify in the comments section in the registration form if you have a specific roommate preference.

    You will receive a computer-generated registration confirmation automatically after your registration. Please note that a full refund for cancellation of registration can only be made until January 31, 2026. For cancellations between February 1, 2026, and February 28, 2026, we will retain 50% of the registration fee. No refunds can be made for cancellations after March 1, 2026.

    Travel Grants

    To promote the participation of outstanding PhD candidates from outside Germany, we are offering ten international participation grants.

    Requirements:

    1. PhD student status at a university outside Germany.
    2. Registration and abstract submission by December 10, 2025.
    3. First and presenting author status on the submitted abstract.

    Application:

    1. When registering, the application for the grant must be indicated in the appropriate field.
    2. When submitting the abstract, a CV and a separate statement explaining why you are eligible for the award (200 words) must be submitted with the abstract. This should describe the relevance of the contribution submitted in the abstract, your motivation for participating in the conference, and/or other noteworthy information.

    The 10 awardees will receive free participation in the International Membrane Biophysics Meeting 2026. Travel expenses cannot be reimbursed.

    Music

    By tradition, our meeting features music. A piano is available. Please bring your instrument and sheet music. During registration, you are invited to indicate if you consider bringing an instrument, playing, singing with others. We can help you connect. Remember, music connects and our meeting is about science and connection.

    By plane:

    You can fly to Frankfurt, Hannover or Leipzig and take the train and bus towards Drübeck.

    By train:

    Deutsche Bahn also includes information about the bus.

    Drübeck has 2 busstops that are euqually close to the monastery: Drübeck Ost and Drübeck West.

    By car:

    Head towards Wernigerode from the east or to Ilsenburg (Harz) from the west. Drübeck is situated in between these two small towns.
